Switzerland

History:

Switzerland’s oldest tribes La Tène and Helvetti dates back to late Iron Age around 450 BC. There western part of modern day belonged to Kings of Burgundians. Prior to late Iron Age they were under Roman Empire around 15BC. In recent history Switzerland has never been invaded during World War I and II despite Germany having detailed plan to attack them, but they never did and since 1848 Switzerland has adopted Federal Constitution  and it is the legal organization of the modern federal state. Switzerland has been neutral to Wars and invasions on other countries. Many times there neutrality has been question by other countries and individuals.

Languages and other Cultures:

There are four major official languages in Switzerland.

1.       French (around 20%)

2.       Swiss German (around 70%)

3.       Italian (around 7%)

4.       Romanch (around 1%)

Religion followed by Switzerland citizens is Christianity with few Jewish Diasporas.

Switzerland is home to many international organizations such as including Red Cross, World Trade Organization (WTO) and United Nations human rights council (UNHRC) etc.

There are around 7 million people in Switzerland. 20% of these people are foreigners. Switzerland is one of the richest countries by per capita GDP.

Government:

Swiss governments holds similar pattern as of USA. Swiss people elect for new President every year, unlike other countries where President usually stay 4-5 years long. Switzerland is a democracy having two houses in their parliament: Council of states with 46 representatives and National council with 200 members. These members are selected amongst 26 cantons in Switzerland, two from each canton. Swiss people elected for new constitution in April 1999. Their President during that time was Ruff Driefuss.

 

Famous things of Switzerland:

Switzerland is famous for their scenic view of Alps mountain range, Jura mountain range and few of them have glaciers.  Matterhorn and Valais are most famous mountain ranges there.

Switzerland also harbors many picturesque lakes famous one being Lake Neuchael.

Then there is ancient city of Geneva having Lake Geneva there. Ancient building architecture is also there like Vaud, 11th-century Benedictine monastery. City of Bern comprises of unique 11th-century arcaded streets, having 13th century clock tower. City of Neuchâtel, located alongside of a lake, has spooking medieval yellow stone buildings.

Berner Oberland is popular tourist attraction that contains exhilarating picturesque view of famous mountains like JungfrauMönch and Eiger, mountain lakes, alpine streams having wild flora and fauna.

Switzerland boasts of Europe's highest railway and many established resorts like Grindelwald, Adelboden and Interlaken.

Famous sports in Switzerland includes Mountaineering, skiing, football (soccer), ice hockey, tennis (remember Roger Federer andMartina hingis) and Formula 1 (Michael Schumacher, Nick Heidfield).

 

 

Facts about Switzerland:

Its one of the most competitive economy in the world and credit for that goes to its strategic location in world map.

Zurich is its commercial capital and Bern Is its political capital. Switzerland headquarters many international organizations like WTO, UNHRC and Red Cross. Large Hadron collider (LHC) machine is located near Geneva. Basel homes many chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Lugano is there tourism center. Swiss people are ranked second in the world when it comes to productivity of the people, they are highly motivated individuals. Switzerland in fact is frontrunner to most of the international competitiveness for example security, individual prosperity, political stability, socializing etc.

There are virtually no strikes reported in Switzerland by any labor unions.
